IQ tests for students, used sensibly

A reasoning score is a weak predictor of grades and a very poor predictor of whether a subject will suit you.

What it correlates with

Performance in abstract, symbol-heavy subjects shows the strongest relationship. Coursework-driven and practical subjects show much less.

What it misses entirely

Persistence, study habits, teaching quality and interest. These account for far more variation in results than reasoning scores do.

A fair use for it

Spotting a lopsided profile — strong spatial, weak verbal — is more useful than the headline figure, because it suggests where practice pays.
